Between projects, or during lulls in a project, I'll find something small to make - rather than spend the time cleaning up the shop or putting tools away. That's when I find a use for some of my urban forest harvested stuff (read mini-logs I find around town which I bandsaw into hopefully usable boards a year later).

This time it was a chunk of The Sentinal - a 250 to 300 year old sycamore the city cut down over three years ago. I'd cut this board extra thick figuring I could resaw it to a more useful thickness later. A little bandsawing, a little oscillating spindle sanding, a little mini-grindering and hours and hours of hand sanding produced this.

Reminds me of either a stylized rabbit or bird. The various contours, while utilitarian, created an interesting form, both to look at and to feel.

What is it? Well scroll down

Here's what this thing is for. (for the english major's irritated by dangling prepositions -This is the purpose for which this thing is intended.)

There are two gripping positions - one for pushing and one for pulling. Both grippig positions fit my hand because I made the handle to fit MY hand. Fun personalizing even a humble tool like this Stanley Sur Form. But I've got to stop doing this - Start a Quick & Dirty and end up spending WAY more time than necessary on a Tweek.
